Third Grade Mathematics

Unit 3-Operations

In this unit, children use place value to develop and practice strategies for addition and subtraction of 2- and 3-digit numbers.  They represent multiplication using arrays, and use these representations to develop strategies for solving multiplication facts.

Reading

Unit 2 - Following Characters Into Meaning

In this unit, reader will grow ideas about characters and discuss how thinking about the characters can deepen understanding.  Readers will make inferences and develop/revise theories about characters throughout and across texts.


Fifth Grade Mathematics

Unit 3-Fraction Concepts, Addition, and Subtraction

In this unit, students build on fraction concepts from previous grades to understand fractions as division.  They also use visual models to make estimates, add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers, and check the reasonableness of their answers.  Finally, students explore strategies for solving fraction-of problems.

Reading Unit 2 - Following Characters Into Meaning

In this unit, readers use characters as a vehicle for interpretation in narrative texts.  Readers will make inferences, compare and contrast, and develop/revise theories about characters throughout and across texts.
